[ Equal Opportunities into Firms] - Gender Studies, o.p.s. and the British organization Wise Owls have worked together for some time now on the international project named P.E.O.P.L.E. The project in question is devoted to the problematic of age-based discrimination. I talked to Andrew Robertson, one of the “Wise Owls“, about why it is profitable for a company to employ and retain aged employees and how successful the UK is at fighting ageism.

[ Equal Opportunities into Firms] - Until recently, media had paid little attention to the struggle of people of the so-called 'Sandwich Generation'. Let me clarify that the term "Sandwich Generation" refers to a life situation rather than the picnic trash can or activities in the kitchen. It means that demographic developments have put an increasing number of middle-age people in a situation where their family members – dependent children or elderly parents – need their care. Research indicates that it is usually women who assume this responsibility. A fifty-five year old woman looking after her children as well as after her or her husband's parents is a typical example.

We have been referring to it because it shows the correlation between the number of women in management and the financial success of the company in the marketplace. And if you have ever had any doubts about the universal validity of the link between these two factors on the grounds that the quoted data had used data from other countries, this news is for you: For the first time, McKinsey has now carried out a survey of Czech companies.

[ Equal Opportunities into Firms] - On 6th September 2010, the European Commission designated 2012 as the “European year for active ageing and intergenerational solidarity”. On that occasion, the Val d’Oise Territorial Unit of the DIRECCTE (Regional Directorate for Companies, Competition, Consumption, Work and Employment), which is piloting and leading a multiannual program running from 2007 to 2013, and designed to promote the employment of seniors – decided to give a new dimension to the “Active Ageing Awards”.

[ Equal Opportunities into Firms] - In many respects, it is as difficult for women cartoonists to establish themselves in the field of independent animated film today as it was for women to become writers at the beginning of the 20th century. As Virginia Woolf depicted it in her famous essay "A Room of One's Own", certain criteria had to be met for a woman to be able to write. Women cartoonists nowadays also need money and a room of their own or, more precisely, "some money" and an animation desk. Money and the desk represent the first step to making a cartoon, even a very short one.

[ Equal Opportunities into Firms] - Scandinavian countries are often described as a role model of social states, of societies that actively support gender equality, etc. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that in Scandinavia, already in the present day, topics related to demographic ageing, such as the new phenomenon of the sandwich generation, are discussed more intensely and analytically than elsewhere. I interviewed Professor Kaisa Kauppinen from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health on the sandwich generation and its gender implications.

[ Liga otevřených mužů] - Liga otevřených mužů představuje právě probíhající kampaň Bílá stužka, v rámci níž poskytuje LOM mužům, kteří obtížně zvládají agresi vůči ženám a dětem, možnost poradit se s mužem – odborníkem. Informuje o podobách násilí na ženách a dětech, podněcuje veřejnou debatu a šíří myšlenku, že násilí ve vztahu není řešení a že dospělý muž ženu ani děti nebije.V celosvětovém kontextu je White Ribbon Campaign, WRC největším světovým hnutím mužů usilujících o vymýcení násilí na ženách a probíhá ve více než 60 zemích. Hnutí má v různých zemích rozmanité pojetí: zaměřuje se na osvětové akce, komunitní práci, vzdělávání mládeže (především chlapců), spolupráci s nevládními organizacemi, vládami a médii. Podporuje organizace pomáhající ženám ohrožených násilím, ale i ty, jež se zaměřují na práci s násilnými osobami. Bílá stužka se také svými aktivitami připojuje k podpoře Mezinárodního dne za odstranění násilí na ženách

[ Česká ženská lobby] - (Praha, 12. července 2012) Rada vlády pro rovné příležitosti žen a mužů v pondělí zveřejnila zápis ze svého jednání obsahující stanovisko, v němž jednohlasně vyjádřila podporu narovnání právního postavení porodních asistentek a možnosti žen realizovat svobodnou volbu poskytovatele péče v těhotenství, při porodu a v šestinedělí, zejména možnost svobodně zvolit způsob a místo porodu. V tomto smyslu Rada podporuje činnost Pracovní skupiny pro problematiku porodnictví při Ministerstvu zdravotnictví České republiky. Na začátku června se již podruhé sešla Pracovní skupina na Ministerstvu zdravotnictví. Jejím stěžejním úkolem je dojednat systémové změny v porodnictví. Ve skupině zasedají porodní asistentky, zmocněnkyně vlády pro lidská práva, lékaři, zástupkyně neziskových organizací, úředníci Ministerstva zdravotnictví a zástupci pojišťoven.

[ Rovné příležitosti do firem] - I letos jsme si připomněli Mezinárodní den rovnosti žen a mužů (MDR), 19. června, a i letos bylo stále mnoho témat, na které je třeba v této souvislosti upozorňovat. V Brně, Praze, Poděbradech, Olomouci a v jiných městech České republiky byly k vidění informační stánky a konaly se různé zábavně-osvětové akce.
