Turecké ženy na MDŽ protestují proti válce v Iráku

Dear sisters,
Under the threat of war in Iraq on this great day there will be special
events dedicated to peace. In order to let know the UN, the US and the
Turkish government that Turkish women oppose to war in Iraq there will
be street demonstrations and meetings mainly in Istanbul, Ankara and other
cities. In the evening of March 8 women demonstrators from women's NGOs
and
groups, feminists and activists will meet to blow out candles - action:
one
minute of darkness for peace. In Ankara there will be
demonstrations/meetings with the participation of many women's NGOs and
groups against war in Iraq and to support Iraqi women and children.
Panel discussions, conferences, symposia and exhibitions will be
organized
by women's groups and NGOs, feminists, activists and
universities/women's
studies and other public and private institutions on the status of women
and
women's human rights.
Some main topics and organizing bodies are: Women
and
use of space: exibition, talks with women architecs about their
experiences,
graduates of 1940-1960 organized by Chamber of Architects& Engineers;
women's human rights and trafficking, migration, violence against women,
and
women and Islam organized by Middle East Technical University, Women's
Studies; gender, modernization and parliamentary representation
organized by
Ankara University Women's Studies; Women and the Civil Code organized by
Women's Rights Committee of Lawyers' , Ankara Bar Association; Gender
Policies and the Media organized by the General Directorate of the
Status
and Problems of Women.
There will also be concerts, e.g. works of Turkish women composers and
documentaries on pioneer women.
